The amazing creative commons licensed (free!) Sonatina Symphonic Orchestra (SSO) by Mattias Westlund, has inspired many of us into MIDI orchestration. Even for independent developers such as ourselves, SSO serves as someting that we can compare our own samples with. In our quest to make the process of looping samples less painful we have therefore used SSO as a testbed for further refining our tools while also gaining more experience.

Sustain Brass SFZ
Brass instruments are known for their strong character and are thus a staple in cinematic or “epic” music. But their versatility makes them useful for other genres such as jazz, marching bands, wind symphonies, 70’s TV soundtracks among many others.
Sustain Brass SFZ consist of the following instrument ensembles:
- 6 Trumpets (sustain)
- 8 Horns (sustain)
- 6 Trombones (sustain)
- 2 Tubas (sustain)
Sustain Strings SFZ
The string section contributes the most in orchestral music. This sample library therefore aims to help create MIDI orchestrations. It can be used on its own or “layered” with other string libraries to get a richer sound. The library is kept relatively small and utilizes the SFZ format that can be loaded with freely obtainable software. For flexibility, the samples have minimal reverberation.
This sfz library includes:
- 18 Violins (sustain)
- 14 Violas (sustain)
- 12 Cellos (sustain)
- 10 Contrabasses (sustain)
